CASABLANCA, 1943
The 1940 Buick Phaeton automobile used in the ultimate classic film, Casablanca, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Only 230 cars of this style were ever manufactured by Buick. The "Aztec Brown" Model 81C convertible vehicle has approximately 42,000 original miles; The interior is original, featuring custom ordered broadcloth. There are several small burns on the upholstery, said to be caused by Mr. Bogart's trademark cigarette. The car has been mechanically restored with a new wiring harness; whitewall tires with side mounts, standard shift on the steering wheel. The vehicle was also used in several Warner Bros. films, including Humphrey Bogart's High Sierra, 1941.
The car, which plays a pivotal role in the final heart-stopping moments of the film, is certainly one of the most recognized automobiles in Hollywood history. Claude Rains as "Captain Louis Renault" drives the car to the airport at gunpoint, with Humphrey Bogart as "Rick Blaine" in the front, and Ingrid Bergman, "Isla Lund" and Paul Henried, "Victor Laszlo" in the back seat. The car is positioned on the airstrip and is seen throughout the climactic scene of "Ilsa" and "Rick's" farewell.
Rick: You're getting on that plane with Victor where you belong... Ilsa: But what about us?
Rick: We'll always have Paris...
Ilsa: When I said I would never leave you...
Rick: Here's looking at you kid.
