JAMES DEAN
A collection of ephemera, including a group of eighteen photographs and stills which were removed from James Dean's personal scrapbook shortly after he died by his friend Jack Simmons. The collection also includes the original photograph of James Dean given to close mourners at the actor's funeral in Fairmount, Indiana on October 8, 1955; and, two printed and handwritten sympathy acknowledgements from James Dean's family, along with an original "special edition" of The Fairmount News, dated October 7, 1955 featuring extensive coverage of the actor's life and death. Together with correspondence between Stuart Stern and the Winslow family, James Dean's close relatives, on whose farm the actor played and worked as a child; and, a kernel of corn taken from the Winslow cow barn on the day of Mr. Dean's funeral. Accompanied by three magazines, circa 1950s, retracing the life and career of James Dean.
