A Pair of numismatic snuff boxes, European, probably 19th Century, the lids and bases made from four English and Spanish silver Crowns; an 1804 Bank of England Dollar, a Great Britain Charles II crown of 1662, a Spanish 1772 Charles III 8-Reales and another Spanish 8-Reales of Charles IV, 1790 with an oval British countermark of George III, the sides decorated with magical or Zodiacal signs (2)

According to a hand-written note accompanying the lot, these boxes were originally captured by an Englishman from a Spanish ship during the Napoleonic Wars. They eventually found their way into the sale of property from the Estate of a British General, at Battle Abbey, Sussex, England.
