A LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY AND KINGWOOD BUREAU PLAT

With a serpentine rectangular ormolu-mounted top inset with a gilt-tooled tan leather surface above a conforming shaped frieze fitted with three drawers applied with foliate-cast borders applied at the sides with female masks, on slightly cabriole legs with foliate scrolling sabots and applied at the knees with crisply cast roman soldiers truncated at the shoulder, inscribed 'henry Dasson et Cie 1888 and stamped 'Henry Dasson 1888'--32in. (81.3cm.) high, 84¾in. (215.3cm.) wide, 40½in. (102.9cm.) deep

This bureau plat is based on an example designed by Charles Cressent c. 1740, now in the Gulbenkian museum in Lisbon(See A. Pradère, French Furniture Makers, 1989, p.130, pls. 90, 91).
