A LOUIS XIV ORMOLU-MOUNTED CHINESE CELADON AND BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN BRUSH-POT
The mounts circa 1710, the porcelain Kangxi (1662-1722)
With gadrooned ormolu ring above a cylindrical body decorated with a celadon ground and four panels decorated with blue and white landscape scenes, with foliate-cast mask-centered strapwork mounts and foliate handles to the sides, possibly regilt

Lot Essay

The distinctive Bérainesque strapwork mounts centred by a female mask are apparently identical to those on the pair of lidded vases in the J. Paul Getty Museum, illustrated in F.J.B. Watson and G. Wilson, Mounted Oriental Porcelain in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu, 1982, no.2, pp.24-7. Further vases with these identical mounts are in the Residenzmuseum, Munich and the Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris.
