A SET OF FIVE GEORGE III MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS
Late 18th/first half 19th century
Comprising one armchair and four side chairs, each with acanthus and C-scrolled crestrail terminating in shell-form ears, above a pierced splat centered by a fretwork diamond flanked by carved stiles above a yellow silk-covered drop in seat, the seatrail with carved rosettes on paterae-headed chamfered legs joined by an H-form stretcher (5)

A virtually identical armchair, once thought to be produced in Charleston, South Carolina, is illustrated in E. Milby Burton, Charleston Furniture 1700-1825, 1955, fig. 111. Some consider to be Irish in origin.
