Comprising two armchairs and eight side chairs, each with a tassel-carved back above a solid splat and scrolled stiles, the outscrolled arms terminating in eagles' heads, over a gros and petit-point needlework drop-in seat, on shell and bellflower-carved cabriole legs ending in pad feet, stamped GILL & REIGATE LONDON (10)

Lot Essay

Gill & Reigate were dealers and manufacturers who advertised antique and reproduction pieces of Georgian and Regency design. A chair after a Hepplewhite design made by this firm dating to the 1920s is illustrated in F. Collard, Regency Furniture, London, 1985, p.263.
