The top with canted corners and foliate and egg-and-dart-carved cornice above three short and four long graduated drawers, the lowest one enclosing a fall front drawer with interior fitted with drawers and pigeonholes, flanked by fluted pilasters with fruitwood and brass-inlaid bases, the base with four graduated drawers, on feet with deep gadrooned carving and hairy paw-and-ball feet, bottom lock stamped PATENT twice

Lot Essay

A closely related chest-on-chest with the same configuration of drawers, angles and with angled although scrolled feet was sold anonymously, Sotheby's New York, 12-13 April 1996, lot 419 ($21,850).
