A GEORGE II PINE GROUP OF ROOM PANELLING
Mid-18th Century, previously fitted and with consequential alterations and replacements
With arched panelled overmantel with ribbon-twist and patera-molded surround beneath a broken swan's neck cresting centered by a bellflower-set shell over crossed palm fronds, the outset angles and voluted bottoms carved with guilloche-patera surround, flanked by lions' masks over ribbon-tied swags, the breakfronted chimneypiece with egg-and-dart cornice above a shell and palm frond clasp to the frieze, the flowerhead-molded aperture with a breche violette marble inner surround and outset angles and plinth feet, with panels and cornice and with a panelled door to the right side, the wall continuing to the right with panelled ends flanking four window recesses with panelled lower sections and central aperture for a doorway with a full run of cornice, the wall opposing the chimneypiece with a run of five panels, inset with two later cut doorways incorporating the original panelling, adjoining the final wall with three arched window surrounds interspersed between four panels again with a full run of cornice, variations in sizes of panels and cornice, originally decorated and with traces of decoration, some elements lacking, some replacements and in varying condition
