AN AMBER-GLAZED POTTERY AMPHORA
TANG DYNASTY

The high-shouldered body set with a pair of double-strap handles enclosing a boss at the base and rising to well-modeled dragon heads with swept-back ears and coiled crest, their jaws open to bite the rim of the cup-shaped mouth, covered with a finely crackled, rich amber glaze shading to dark chestnut on one side and falling in an irregular line to below mid-body to expose the pale buff ware (foot rim chips)
