A LARGE CARVED ROOTWOOD FIGURE OF SHOULAO
17TH/18TH CENTURY

The gnarled wood carved as the god of Longevity standing on a separate base of similar material, with a long twig grasped in the raised right hand of the deity, his head, with protuberant cranium and long flowing beard, turned slightly to one side, his eyes cast down to look at the large pearl held in his left hand, dressed in long robes with the knobby surface perhaps simulating an animal-skin tunic, a double gourd slung from his belt
