AN UNUSUAL TEAL-GREEN-GROUND SILK EMBROIDERED INFORMAL ROBE
EARLY 19TH CENTURY

Worked in satin stitch with an overall pattern of prunus clusters interspersed with butterflies, above the hem decorated with pierced rocks issuing from grassy mounds and from which grow further branches of prunus, all picked out in shades of coral, cream, green, blue and black and reserved on a greenish-blue ground, with black-ground borders and cream silk cuffs (borders probably late 19th century)
