A RARE PAINTED WOOD FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN
SONG DYNASTY
Carved in a naturalistic manner, standing with right foot turned slightly out to the side and arms bent, the left hand held in a fist and partially hollowed, the separate right hand extended, his belly hanging over the belt of his long, full-sleeved robes painted red and dark green with gilt borders and slit on the sides to show the full pants beneath, his head pushed forward from the projecting circular collar and his face well carved with strong features set in a fierce expression, the mouth open showing the teeth and the eyes hollowed, his hair painted black and pulled up under a cap (some repairs, losses and cracks)
