Lot Essay

The floral marquetry and inlaid medallions of mythological figures found on this commode in combination with the distinctively inlaid uprights on a composition ground is typical of the work of the Milanese cabinetmaker, Giuseppe Maggiolini (1738-1814). Similarly inlaid commodes attributed to Maggiolini are illustrated in S. Colombo, L'Arte Del Legno E Del Mobile in Italia, 1981, fig. 568.
