The circular enamel dial with roman and arabic chapters, striking on a countwheel, signed Thivet A Laferte sous Jouarre, the case decorated with flowers within scrollwork and foliage on a similarly decorated bracket--38¼in. (97cm.) high, 15½in. (39.5cm.) wide, 7¾in. (19.5cm.) deep

Thivet most likely worked under Louis Jouarre, Horloger de la ville de Paris, circa 1739.

A similar bracket clock also of stained green horn is illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Française, vol. I, p.155, no.2. Another clock with similar floral decoration is illustrated op. cit., p. 155, no. 3. A similar horn bracket clock by Bouchet was sold in these Rooms, 5 November 1986, lot 53.
