Lot Essay
A console of similar design and incorporating the same architectural elements to the offered lot is in the Sala degli scudieri at the Palace at Stupinigi. Designed by Filippe Jucara and begun in 1729 the palace was constructed as a hunting lodge for King Vittorio Amedeo II of Sardinia. The palace was used as a country retreat by Napoleon in 1803 and was subsequently the Italian residence of his sister Pauline Borghese (see L. Malle, Stupinigi, 1968, p. 202).
