Lot Essay

Made on Puget Sound, Homeward, was one of Curtis' earliest photographs of Native Americans. In 1898, it was one of several photographs by Curtis to win the grand prize in a National Photographic Exhibition in Paris, further sparking his interest in recording Native American life.
