The design of these candlesticks relates to a series of 124 candlesticks made by the Schrodel family in Dresden for Frederick Augustus, Elector of Saxony, described in a contemporary inventory as "glatt faconniert Spielleuchter" (see Friedrich August von O'Byrn, Die Hof-Silberkammer und die Hof-Kellerei zu Dresden, Dresden, 1881, p. 14.
