Lot Essay

Flowers was published in both a signed and an unsigned version to coincide with Warhol's 1964 exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery. The owner of this print was viewing the show when the artist was present and she asked Warhol to sign a copy of Flowers for her. He did so in what is normally the upper right corner of the composition.
