Lot Essay

The Vezzi factory in Venice was active for a short while under the leadership of Francesco (d. 1740) and Giuseppe Vezzi. Production started in 1719 and continued to about 1740.

The shape of the present caddy is unrecorded in the literature of Vezzi, although the underglaze blue decoration lightly enriched in iron-red is to be found on several examples. It is arguable that the iron-red was added after the porcelain manufacture was closed during the period in which Vezzi continued to retail his own products. The shape is that of a Chinese tea cannister of similar date.

The present flask will be included in Dr. Luca Menegatti's forthcoming work on the Vezzi factory
