BLUE INTERLACED L'S ENCLOSING DATE LETTER B FOR 1755, PAINTER'S K FOR DODIN, INCISED 3 TO BOTH

Each painted in colours with a putto in clouds, that on the cup holding an arrow, that on the saucer holding a quiver filled with arrows, reserved on the white ground within a gilt ciselé foliate cartouche of grasses, flower sprays and garlands, within gilt dentil rims

Lot Essay

Charles-Nicolas Dodin was active at Vincennes and Sèvres as a painter 1754-1802.

Dodin started at the factory painting monochrome putti in clouds, progressing to polychrome within his first year. Cf. Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection: Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1988, vol. III, pp. 1029-1032
