Two albums compiled by J. Pocock: one containing thirty-six platinum prints with one on fine fabric, majority approx. 4¼ x 6¼in., occasional ink manuscript captions and dates on mounts, tissue guards, half morocco, ruled in gilt, sm. 4to; the second with ninty-five albumen prints, nine gelatin silver prints and nine platinum prints, various sizes, majority with ink manuscript captions and dates on mounts, ink inscription M.A.Whitby, Yeovil, Sept. 1882 on front free page, half morocco, ruled in gilt, sm. 4to. (disbound), with accompanying article from The British Journal Photographic Almanac, 1883; a third album with photographs attributed to J. Pocock and others of Venice and Florence; with a platinum print, approx. 3½ x 3 1/3in., of the photographer. (3)

Lot Essay

The Postal Photographical Society had "been founded for the convenience of amateurs in different parts of the country to circulate prints of members by post for mutual critcism..." by John Pocock. One of the albums was made for his fiancee Mary Alice Whitby shortly before their marriage.
