A SHAPED LACQUER BOX, EDO PERIOD (19TH CENTURY), of chevron shape formed of two conjoined squares, each of two tiers and decorated on the sides and lid differently, one half of the lid with a scene of an egret perched on a willow above a stream, rendered in sumi-e togidashi on a gold ground and embellished with nashiji, and the other half of the lid patterned with gold cloud bands embellished with kirigane against a dark moon, the sides patterned with a meandering stream and silver flowers or with florets on a hirame and nashiji ground, the interior cases nashiji--4¼ x 3½ x 2¼ in.
