This overhead is exactly the same as that shown on the iron framed 'Salt' lathe illustrated in 'English Mechanic' for April 6th 1870, and reproduced on the cover of SOT Bulletin No.77. It is said to have been designed by a Mr. Smith of Jersey, C.I. It is known that more than one were made with slight variations and one at least bears the name of J.H. Evans as maker. This example was found in Jersey.
