Lot Essay

In 1879 Rodin accepted an invitation from Albert Carrier-Belleuse, the director of the Manufacture de Sèvres porcelain works, to design decorations for vases. He worked there until 1882, producing 18 vases. His decorations allude to the pagan idylls of Correggio, Proud'hon and Watteau.
