With berried-fluted stem beneath a circular dish cast in the center with the victory of Dionysius over Hercules within a border depicting a bacchanal procession centered by a rim of circular profile portraits depicting sixteen Imperial Roman rulers from Hadrian to Julia Donna, stamped A.D.--5in. high

The original massive gold paterae from which this tazza derives its decoration was discovered in Rennes and dates from the 3rd Century. See Encyclopedia of World Art, 1961, Vol.5, page 392
