With curved shank, at the top a carved human head with gaping mouth, extended tongue, prominent nose, oval eyes with inlaid haliotis shell discs, broad raised brows, painted projection for line attachment at top, a large barbed and serrated bone hook lashed at end

Lot Essay

The hook shows signs of extensive use and evidence of carving by non-metal tools. It is probably of eighteenth century orgin.
