Lot Essay
Chariot of Fame, 1573 tons, was a medium clipper built by Donald McKay in 1853 for Enoch Train of Boston. Intended for the Boston to Liverpool packet service, she completed seven passages before being chartered by the White Star Line for their Australian service. After 1855, she was put to work carrying general cargoes, including guano, until being sold into British ownership in 1862. Thereafter she traded between the UK and Australia-New Zealand and had disappeared from Lloyd's Register by 1874.
