A pair of Old Sheffield plate gadrooned and foliate and shell-decorated bombe-shaped oblong tea caddies and a matching square sugar box, each on beaded scrolling foliage feet and with a gadrooned and shell and foliate-decorated domed detachable cover with shell finial, with rococo cartouches, each engraved with a crest, the undersides struck with unidentified marks - height of caddies 5½in, in a contemporary but non-matching silver-mounted shaped oblong shagreen tea caddy lined in purple plush, on claw and ball feet, the domed hinged cover with foliate and shell-decorated swing handle - length of caddy 12½in. The mark on the above pieces is illustrated on page 441 of History of Old Sheffield Plate by Frederick Bradbury. Although the Firm has not been identified Bradbury suggests a possible date of 1760 for this mark.
