This is the form shown by Holtzapffel in Vol IV, Fig 163, for rear mounting. He decries the rear mounting in favour of the front but it possesses many advantages. It can only be fitted to traversing mandrel lathes. The only advantage of the front mounting type is that it can be used on common headstocks.
