A Japanese lacquer rectangular box and cover with canted corners, decorated in gold hiramakie, togidashi, kirigane and mura nashiji on a fundame ground with a gateway beside pine on a rocky river bank with a view of mountains showing through clouds, the interior with three boys, one holding a fan the other two holding cockerels on a nashiji ground (chips, old damages, some flaking) -- 5½in.high, 17th/18th century.
