Autograph letter sheet, dated Abbotsford 21 September 1832, probably in the hand of John Gibson Lockhart, to Home Drummond of Blair Drummond, stating: 'Sir Walter Scott died here this afternoon at half past one o' clock', franked 'Melrose'and 'Sep 22 1832' with broken black wax seal; an unrelated autographed letter signed by Geo[rge] Bell, provost, 4 November 1745, permitting: 'The Revd Mr John Jardine' to 'pass unmollested from hence [Dumfries] to the Army Under the Command of of His Excellency Field Marshal Wade', ¾ page folio; and a small number of signatures cut from letters and documents.
