APSLEY CHERRY-GARRARD (1886-1959)
One page a.l.s., Lamer Park, Wheathampstead, Herts, December 5 1922, to H.M. Tomlinson, thanking him for a favourable review of his book, The Worst Journey in the World: 'As one explorer to another Thank you! I sweated blood over that book and it's good, instead of getting the usual quotations etc., to find someone expressing just what I'm after so much better than I could have expressed it myself.'

Lot Essay

Having studied history and the classics at Oxford, Apsley Cherry-Garrard donated #1000 to Scott's second Antarctic expedition, and on Wilson's recommendation was appointed assistant zoologist. With Wilson and Bowers he took part in the extraordinarily arduous winter journey to Cape Crozier, described in The Worst Journey in the World (1922).
