'On Finding Phoenixes', manuscript poem, signed with initials, comprising 5 rhyming couplets on one sheet: 'Some say the Phoenix dwells in Aethiopia; /In Turkey, Syria, Tartary, or Utopia ... /While sceptic Eastern travellers would arraign /The existence of this prodigy; & feign /That, since it seems so rare and unprolific, /The bird's a pseudomorphous Hieroglyphic.'
