One page a.l.s. by Sassoon on Reform Club paper, dated 54 Tufton St., Feb. 26, angrily rejecting John Middleton Murry's assertion that Wilfred Owen was the greater war poet: 'I wonder if J.M.M. is aware that I saw W.O. every day for over 3 months, & was consulted by him about every line of war poetry he wrote!'

Lot Essay

Felicitas Corrigan comments: 'Perhaps because Sassoon consistently belittled his own war poetry and generously praised Owen's, there has been a failure to realise how special his achievement was' (Siegfried Sassoon Poet's Pilgrimage, London, 1973, p.21)
