Lot Essay

Magdalena was the first premier Royal Mail liner built for the plate route. She began by attending the 1889 Naval Review. In June 1910 she was strandeed outside Cartagena and remained fast four days. The outbreak of the 1914-18 War gave her extra life, although as a troopship from 1915 until broken up six years later.
