A LARGE GROUP OF COINS AND BARS FROM THE WRECK OF THE "ATOCHA" The following fifty-three lots contain more than one thousand coins and two large silver bars recovered by Mel Fisher's "Treasure Salvors, Inc" from the wreck of the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha during the 1980's. All the coins, which were originally recovered in encrusted clumps, have been cleaned. Except where noted, the coins are from the mint of Potosi in present-day Bolivia, were struck during the reign of Phillip III of Spain and carry the Assayers' marks Q, T, or A. Many of the coins in this group are, in our opinion, better than most coins from this particular wreck, being well-struck and of full weight. The consignment also contains a small number of dated coins as well as a selection of pieces from other mints, including the famous facility at Bogota.
