Sculpted in raised relief with a seated official facing right wearing a short wig, the face with almond-shaped eyes, raised cosmetic lines and detailed nose and mouth, traces of his left hand over his chest holding an attribute, his right arm below extending downward, traces of red pigment on the face and body

Lot Essay

Probably from the tomb of Mentuemhat, Mayor of Thebes and Governor of Upper Egypt. This relief belongs to a series of so-called archaizing reliefs which were created in and around Thebes evoking the style of the Old Kingdom.
