LINCOLN, ABRAHAM, President. Engraved document signed ("Abraham Lincoln") as President, countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, and endorsed at top by E.D. Townshend, Washington, D.C., 3 July 1862. 1 page, large folio, 492 x 393 mm. (17 5/16 x 13 3/4 in.), PRINTED ON PARCHMENT, elaborately engraved, blue paper seal of the United States at upper left, bold heading at top "The President of the United States," beneath which an American Eagle and the "E Pluribus Unum" motto fly above billowing clouds, at bottom large vignette of crossed flags, cannons and other military paraphernalia, with small legend "Engraved by J. V .N. and C. H. Throop, Washn. City," accomplished in manuscript, the portions supplied by a clerk in manuscript slightly pale, but the signatures of Stanton and Lincoln (in different inks) are dark. Appointing U.L.M. Burger an Assistant Adjutant General of Volunteers with rank of Captain.
