A Japanese brown lacquer rounded rectangular hokkai box and cover with gilt-bronze kiku-head ring handles, on six mounted feet, inlaid in aogai with numerous roundels of stylised ho-o to the top and sides, the legs inlaid with dot motifs, on a roironuri ground (old wear, minor chips) -- 8½.in.long, 18th century.
