This instrument comes with a type written note stating thatthis sun-dial was the property of Sir John Strachey, G.C.S.I.,C.I.E., and was used by him on many journeys in the Himalaya and at the places whose names were written by him in the lid of the case. To Sutton Court from his Son Lieut.Col.J.Strachey 1937. The case is also signed J.Strachey - 1851
