An embossed and pierced paperlace valentine card, stamp marked Dobbs, the manuscript verse reads 'Blest be the home where Love makes his dwelling/Pleasure and peace his footsteps invite/Oh! with what joy each bosom is swelling/When two in one tie thus fondly unite', a garland of hand-coloured flowers below conceals hidden messages, the gauze centre framed by a gilt paperlace design is applied with a silver and hand-coloured oval garland framing two doves building a nest and the words 'Young House-Keepers', 9 x 7¼in., c. 1840-50; with contemporary embossed paperlace envelope stamp marked Kershaw, 10¼ x 8¼in.
