HAND-COLOURED LITHOGRAPHED VALENTINE
A hand-coloured lithographed valentine card with an embossed border depicting Cupid walking in a garden, applied with a book entitled 'Short Tales For Young People About to Marry. The Pleasures of Matrimony. Love & Co., Bride Court', opening to reveal two pages of text warning people about rushing into marriage, followed by a double page hand-coloured lithograph of a large family, the husband with tears streaming down his face, the moral of the story being 'Life's enjoyment/Is a treasure/But too much is/not a pleasure', 7½ x 4½in., c. 1850-60; with a contemporary embossed envelope.
