Details
A finely engineered 1 1/16in ; 1ft scale model of a cross compound jet condensing Corliss valve mill engine 'Charlotte', 'Ida' built by N.Handley. Measurements overall -- 12 x 35½in (30.5 x 90.2cm).
With brass bound blacked steel clad cylindes 1 1/8 and 1½in bore x 2¼in stroke, cylinder pressure relief valves, dummy displacement lubricators, studded stuffing boxes, modified Dobson/Musgrave valve gear, belt and gear driven Hartnell governor and linkage, slipper type crosshead guides and piston tailshaft, tapered connecting rods with bolted, wedged split brasses, big end pressure lubricators, pierced eccentrics with oil pots, pedestal type crankshaft bearings with oil pots and split bolted spoked flywheel with barring ring and rope grooves. Further details include main stop valve and inlet pipe, lagged transfer pipe, piston tail shaft driven air pump 7/8in bore incorporated within the condensor, pipework and valves, flywheel pit, stauchions and ahndrails and pedestal mounted vacuum, LP and boiler pressure gauges. Finished in green, black, red and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated black plinth and stone floor.
