Lot Essay

'Thormanby' was by 'Melborne' or 'Windhound' out of 'Alice Hawthorn', and was bred by Mr. Plummer and owned by Mr. James Merry. 'Thormanby' won the Derby in 1860 with Harry Cunstance up, resulting in winings of some ¨85,000 for Mr. Merry 'an uncouth, ill-educated, suspicious minded Scot'.
