Blackmer records that, angry that all credit for the canal was given to de Lesseps, Ismail Pasha, Viceroy of Egypt, removed the portrait, preface, and the section on "L'Inauguration du Canal Maritime de Suez" (including plates 20-25), from the 200 copies allocated to him.
