The tables 'kidney-shaped' or 'horseshoe' form invented in the 18th Century, corresponds to that of a dressing-table manufactured in 1772 by Thomas Chippendale (see C. Gilbert, Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978 fig 427) and a trestle-ended table of this form featured in Messrs. C. & R. Light's Cabinet Furniture, 1881
