A Victorian novelty three-piece parcel-gilt condiment set, each piece modelled as a chimpanzee wearing a Turkish-style smoking jacket engraved with flowers and foliage, all three with appealing toffee-coloured glass eyes, the creature forming the mustard pot wearing a shaped circular hat and spectacles, and with a pipe and goblet, the smaller creatures forming the salt pot and pepperette each wearing a decoratively-pierced skull cap and holding a snuff box, the mustard pot with matching spoon, its terminal forming the plume for the hat, Edward Charles Brown, London 1867, the three larger pieces each impressed with a "diamond" patent registration mark for February 26, 1868, the mustard pot 4¼in.
