Coloured glass intaglios were the speciality of William Tassie (1777-1799) whose uncle James Tassie (b.Glasgow 1735 and London 1799) pioneered portraiture and reproductions from the antique in vitreous white enamel paste. William Tassie ran his flourishing business in glass impressions from 20 Leicester Square and published catalogues in 1816, 1820 and in 1830
