Leitz have traditionally presented significantly numbered camera bodies to individuals of note, starting from body number 1000. This camera, no. 800000, was presented to Dr Konrad Adenauer by Leitz in 1956. Adenauer (1876-1967) was the first chancellor of the German Federal Republic and leader of the Christian Democratic Union. He was responsible for the policy of integrating Germany into a strong Europe.
